Living in Rancho Santa Fe

For ultra-luxury living in San Diego County, look no further than the exclusive and sprawling community of Rancho Santa Fe. Located in North County, just east of Solana Beach and Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe boasts some of the most expensive and gorgeous properties in Southern California. From beautiful Italian-style villas to Spanish abodes and luxury equestrian properties, Rancho Santa Fe homes offer an unmatched level of craftsmanship and luxury.

This private enclave got its start in the 1920s. Originally conceived as a “rural residential community for gentleman farmers,” the Santa Fe Land Improvement Company tapped land use consultant, L.G. Sinnard, to design a plan for the new town center and the surrounding community. The plans were later refined by an architectural firm, Requa and Jackson, who employed a then-unknown architect, Lillian Rice, to head the project. Rice is responsible for the iconic Spanish-style design you see in the Village of Rancho Santa Fe and some private homes today. The community really gained traction as a retreat for the rich and famous in the 1930s, when Bing Crosby began hosting “The Clambake” at the area golf club in 1937.

The Covenant also introduces extra privileges and rules associated with homeownership.
